Trans Day Of Remembrance

On this day, we honor the memory of the trans people who lost their lives to anti-trans violence this year. Sadly, within the United States, at least 37 known trans and gender non-conforming people, the majority of which were Black and Latinx, became victims to unjust, transphobic hatred. These numbers, which are only those reported, rose above the number of victims in 2019 by July alone. Transphobia induced violence and crime continues to be a major problem for America.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we cannot hold a public vigil. We encourage fellow trans people, members of the community, and allies to show their support by lighting and displaying candles, signs, posters, or anything that can show your support for the trans community. If you feel inclined, please take a picture of your show of remembrance and post it to social media with the hashtag #TDOR. We ask that you not simply remember these names, but support trans people in your life and uplift Black and Latine trans voices. Rise up, and speak out. Nothing will change if we are silent.
