Queer Winter Activity Series: Fat Biking

  • Portland Gear Hub 155 Washington Avenue Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Join Pride Portland and Portland Gear Hub on a fat biking adventure!

Each winter cyclists reluctantly give in to inclement weather and put away their bikes for the season. Most of them would rather brave the elements and enjoy the outdoors, but some bikes don’t ride well once the snow begins piling up.

That’s where fat bikes come in! Made for soft, uneven conditions, the fat bike is perfect for taking on snow.

We'll meet at Portland Gear Hub at 10AM and be back by 3:30PM. We'll carpool to the trails.

You can bring their own fat bike, if you have one (and are encouraged to do so!)

If you don't have one, you should call Portland Gear Hub in advance to reserve their bike (there may or may not be bikes available day of); rental is a discounted rated of $15 for the day.

To reserve a bike, please check out https://portlandgearhub.org/bike-rentals/ for more information about the bikes and call the shop 207-761-7632 to reserve the correct size.

We'll pick a trail system for riding based on weather and experience of riders. You don't need to be an expert rider but should know how to ride a bike in general and should be prepared to be outdoors for a few hours.

Remember to bring: Water, snacks, weather appropriate clothing, and a helmet.
